| The person centred spirit and skills of Motivational Interviewing are the overarching principles which permeate our work. Even where training is not directly on an MI-based approach, these humanistic values inform the training. Details of specific MI-based training courses we offer can be found in our Forensic, Health and Business portfolios
Our Background in Motivational Interviewing - based Approaches.
All ignition Associates who are involved with delivery of Forensic Motivational Interviewing training and Motivational Interactions training come in a special flavour: MINTy. This means that they have attended one of the international training events led by Drs. Miller and Rollnick, the originators of Motivational Interviewing, and are members of the international Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT). Each of them has many years experience in the use and training of M.I., across a variety of settings, ranging from work with survivors and perpetrators of sexual or domestic abuse to substance misuse and critical incident counselling, in the public and voluntary sectors and private practice.
The training is skills focused and experiential in nature, clearly demonstrating how to operationalise the theories and concepts covered. There is an emphasis on skills practice and peer coaching and feedback to develop reflexivity in the use of the techniques. The training is also fun!
ignition has delivered training in Forensic Motivational Interviewing and Motivational Interactions to criminal justice staff internationally, such as for the Ministry of Justice in Estonia and Corrections Victoria in Australia. In the latter our training now forms
the centrepiece of offender management training.
ignition M.I.- based training is specifically adapted to forensic contexts where work is with coerced individuals, and provides an extremely effective approach for engaging offenders in the process of change. It is suitable for all staff:
- carrying a one-to-one caseload
- delivering group work programmes to all types of offenders, including sex offenders, domestic abusers or other special populations such as personality disordered
- working with particularly volatile groups such as young offenders
