| Level 1: Foundations of Motivational Interactions (2 days, Min. 10, max 16, £375.00 per person) |
Motivational work with patients or clients should not be something which occurs only within the box of one to one health consultations, or which requires extended face to face contact. Developing and maintaining Motivation is a critical element in facilitating patients to engage with an examination of their own health-effecting behaviour and working on changing that behaviour
What is Motivational Interactions training?
ignition is the only provider of Motivational Interactions training in the UK. Motivational Interactions provides health staff with a systematic approach for seizing on the brief opportunities for motivational communication with patients which present themselves in everyday interaction, especially within hospital or health care settings. It provides the skills and understanding to maximise the motivational potential of brief contacts or consultations with patents, which may only be a few minutes in length or simply form part of an everyday informal interaction.
Who is the training suitable for?
The Level 1 course is suitable for all staff with some degree of patient contact or a clinical role which does not include formalised or extended one to one interviews. The training is particularly appropriate as a foundation approach for clinicians within residential settings such as Intensive Care Units, drug and alcohol rehabilitation units or any in-patient setting, emphasising as it does the skills and abilities to help form and maintain the rapport between patient and professional.
In forensic mental health settings such as secure units or therapeutic communities the training provides a clear cut philosophy of intervention to which all staff can subscribe, being fully compatible with social therapy models and providing a research based psychological model for patient engagement. In these settings the training is particularly suitable for nursing staff that are present on the ward for long periods and thus have maximum potential as a motivator. When applied to these settings, the training is a three day course.
