Domestic Violence & Abuse Consultancy
In addition to our specialised training courses in this field, ignition is a leading provider of domestic violence and abuse consultancy services in both the statutory and voluntary sectors.

Supervision
The Home Office now recognises that the effects of domestic abuse perpetrator work can be as insidious as sex offender work, causing workers to question their own relationships and experiences and recommends that staff clinical supervision should be seen as essential .

Duluth Pathfinder Programme
ignition has provided Supervision services to the group work team in the West Yorkshire Probation Area delivering this Pathfinder, which now forms the basis of the Integrated Domestic Abuse Programme (IDAP). Consultancy by our experienced and qualified staff combines supervision around personal effects and input on practice issues, supporting programme integrity and enhancing delivery though the increased reflexivity necessary to effective practice. Supervision is delivered on a co-gendered basis, and combines a humanistic counselling approach with active methods such as theatre or drama based techniques. This service is available to both perpetrator workersand women’s support workers.

"West Yorkshire Probation Board have had a contract with ignition since December 2001.... and they have delivered bi-monthly consultancy sessions to programme facilitators. This has been a very demanding task given that the differing levels of skills and experience amongst facilitators and the fact that until recently (April 2004) this was a pilot programme with a number of areas of work that needed to be tested out or developed.

I would say that the consultancy delivered has been outstanding .....facilitating groups of practitioners struggling with the issues .....maintaining a balance between helping staff cope with the impact of the programme and developing practice skills ...... promoting a structure which enables treatment managers to develop the learning from the consultancy in their sessions with facilitators...... highlighting areas for development. ignition's contribution to what is now the accredited Integrated Domestic Abuse Programme has been invaluable."

Coventry Non Convicted Domestic Violence Perpetrator Programme
Most domestic abusers never come before the courts. To fill this gap in provision, the Coventry Domestic Violence Partnership commissioned ignition to develop a Business Plan and Service Design for an entirely new voluntary sector agency delivering perpetrator and women’s support services. This involved the specification of a three-year phased development plan for three increasingly sophisticated and comprehensive levels of service, and included:

  • Development of Business Case for the service
  • Design of assessment procedures
  • Recommendations on core perpetrator programme structure
  • Management and support structures
  • Recommendations for partnership working
  • Research and analysis of effective models for support work with women and children

North Wales Probation Area
In addition to staff Supervision for the group work team ignition redesigned the Area’s ‘legacy’ programme to meet Respect Minimum Standards and comply with ‘what works’ recommendations.
This included:

  • Recommendations for assessment procedures as part of Case Management
  • Design of pre-group motivational work
  • Integrating ‘active’ experiential work
  • Greater focus on themes of sexual respect and effects of DV on children
  • Increasing the level of skills practice in pro-social behaviours for offenders
