Level 3, Co-Gendered Working & Pro Social Modelling (2 days, Min 10, Max 16, £210.00 per person)
What is training in Co-gendered Working & Pro social Modelling ?
This course is intended specifically for workers undertaking delivery of accredited or non-accredited domestic violence and abuse group work programmes. Co-gendered delivery must be considered an absolute minimum of good practice in this field, but involves some complex issues to negotiate.

The training is delivered by a co-gendered team and the practice of the ignition workers is open to examination at all times as a teaching aid and stimulus to debate. The course first considers issues of generic co-working such as

  • what is ‘co-working’
  • self awareness of workers
  • necessary negotiations between workers
  • developing safety and honesty
  • frameworks for critical feedback
  • leading sessions & supporting coworkers
  • hand overs of focus and control
  • debrief structures

It then goes on to explore the specifics of co-gendered working between men and women working in the particular context of domestic violence and abuse group work, examining the following subjects:

  • development of ‘intimacy’ between workers
  • avoiding embarrassment
  • clarifying value base on gender issues
  • differential issue of gender i.e. how is it different for a man or woman?
  • dealing with personal questions

The training also examine the issue of pro-social modelling and the role of the workers in exemplifying the relationship characteristics found in the ‘Equality Wheel’ from the Duluth programme, including issues of

  • the power of social learning approaches
  • demonstration of gendered respect
  • personal qualities of the worker as educational device

Who is the training suitable for?
Co-gendered Working & Pro social Modelling is a Level 3 course intended specifically for workers with previous experience of group work and preferably with experience of domestic violence and abuse work who are undertaking or about to undertake delivery of group work programme to this specific abuser audience.
